Conservation

  1. What do we know about honeybees?
  2. Where do they get food from?
  3. When bees go to flowers, what happens?

Game: Pollinators

  1. Scatter playing cards face up around the kids in a 6 foot radius
  2. Scatter more in outside that radius
  3. Kids Line up
  4. Rules:
    1. Kids are bees
    2. They can take 3 steps (Not hops, jumps, etc) from the starting point (Hive)
    3. When they get to a card they flip it over to show they went and got all the pollen and nectar
    4. Everyone gets a turn
    5. How many cards did the HIVE get?
    6. Debrief on the other cards they couldn't get, talk about adding another hive
    7. Repeat with two hives
  5. Conclude with some facts
    1. Plants make flowers to attract bees
    2. Bees go to the flowers
    3. The flowers turn into fruits and vegetables that we eat
    4. Without bees we'd lose 1/3rd of all fruits and vegetables
    5. How can we protect honeybees?
      1. Plant flowers
      2. Don't pick flowers
      3. Don't spray bees
      4. Don't step on them
